You may or may not remember back on October 15th 1997 when Andy Green squeezed himself between two jet engines in the “Thrust SSC” (Super Sonic Car) and piloted the first “car” through the sound barrier at a mind numbing 763 mph. The Thrust SSC project itself was driven forward by a guy named Richard Noble, who actually held the land speed record himself from 1983-1997 with his previous car (the Thrust2) which only did 633 mph. Now, 763 seems pretty quick to me, but it is just not fast enough for Mr.Noble. As of yesterday, he and his crew of speed hunters officially have their 1000+ mph vehicle being built. Wait.. what?
The “Bloodhound SCC” is what they are calling this new vehicle, and it is powered by one very large jet engine….. with a rocket buckled on to the top of it… According to their website, this rock-o-jet-comb-pack will have about 47,000 lbs of thrust which is equivalent to 133,000 horsepower. I don’t know much about rockets or time travel, but if this thing hits 1000 mph and POOF just vanishes into thin air, I’m not even going to be surprised. Shoot, I’m expecting it. The build of this vehicle is anticipated to take about 2 years, so 1000 MPH will have to wait until late 2012 – 2013 according to the BloodhoundSSC website. Alas, let’s get onto the Bloodhound SSC animation and 1997 763 MPH Thrust SSC video!

……and now let’s relive the Thrust SSC doing 763 mph.

That would be a fun ride. I bet the noise alone will numb minds. Jet cars are almost too loud!
