M3 – A Mashbat Brothers Film

Several months ago I shared a really cool short film made by the Mashbat Brothers which featured a new Subaru WRX, and a guy that clearly knew his way around the basketball court.  I wasn’t sure exactly how to describe the video, other than it feeling like an awesome commercial for something. It had great music, terrific filming, and being a car-guy, the new WRX was obviously a win.

Fast forward to today – Bishrel Mashbat, who made that first film, just sent me the newest one that he and his brother have made. Sure enough, it is equally fantastic. I have now seen it about 4 (…okay now 5) times in a row, and it’s quite addicting to watch. The music is incredibly intense, and the featured car for this short film is a slick looking BMW M3.  If you were a fan of the first video, like cars, love music, or are simply alive, you will probably enjoy this video. Again, I am left wanting so much more.

Thanks Bishrel! Excellent work again!

In Car Video: Hill Climb Crash in a BMW E30

As it turns out, I know a few guys that do hill climbs in really fast cars. Actually… I’m not sure if the cars are really fast… or they are just driven really fast? In any case, I can assure you that this whole hill climbing thing is pure madness. Back when I was young and fearless, I used to ride down metal slides on freshly waxed cookie sheets (I don’t want to brag…). To this date, it was probably the fastest that I have ever traveled, so needless to say I have a very healthy fear of speed. Driving on a narrow road at ridiculous speeds with nothing but gigantic trees and mysterious creatures on both sides? Hmm. I’m guess I am probably not meant for that. I’ll be honest, when I walk by trees, I feel slightly uncomfortable knowing that if I bump into one of them it will probably scrape my arm. So speeding by them in a car at 100 miles per hour on wet pavement sounds absolutely horrifying to me. Maybe my cookie sheet sliding endeavors as a youth taught me all that I needed to know about going fast. I’m not sure, but I know that I would never do it again. I’ll let the more fearless friends of mine enjoy these fruits of life, and I’ll stick to spinning wrenches while the cars stay still.

For those of you that are far too impatient to watch the whole video above, feel free to skip ahead to about 2:05 mark. As soon as Matt (the driver) cuts the steering wheel hard left, you will probably want to pick up your feet, and shout “wwwweeeeaaaaOOOOHHHH!!” out loud.  Watch it twice or thrice if necessary. Heck, share it with a friend. It’s a fact, hill climb drivers are totally fearless.

Journey WRX: A WRX Journey

Over on VWVortex, there is never a lack of greatness being posted from people that are far more creative and talented than myself. This video is from one of those posts.  From what I have gathered, the creator of the video’s friend (did I lose you there?) bought a Subaru WRX, but that isn’t his only claim to fame.  He can also tear up a basketball court like he invented the dang Reebok Pumps. Naturally, the two friends decided to combine these two passions into one cinematic adventure that strangely makes me want to purchase something at the end.  I just can’t decide whether I want some classic Air Jordan’s, or a new WRX.  In any case, it is amazing what a couple of talented folks can do behind a camera.  A simple idea turns into something that could easily be a great TV advertisement for……. something I have yet to decide. Well done!

Diablo in the Snow.

Normally I have absolutely nothing nice to say about winter. However, watching this video of a guy in a Lambo did remind me, that I do in-fact enjoy the heck out of some snowy parking lots. RWD, FWD, AWD, it just doesn’t matter.  Spinning around in circles, and pretending you are Ken Block for a few minutes before the police show up, makes you feel like a true champion. Doing it in a Lamborghini, well, that is probably even better, though I will likely never know.

Subaru Crunch

Your Wheel Just Fell Off… WAIT WHAT!?!

Have you ever heard somebody proclaim “I’m going to drive this dang car until the wheels fall off!” ?  Well, a friend of mine literally did drive at least 1 wheel off, and he captured that very special moment on video for the world to enjoy.  Luckily for him and his Subaru, he knew something was horribly amiss before the wheel decided to take an early apex without him. He immediately pulled the heck over before the car could begin its full acrobatic yard sale routine. Extremely Lucky!

Note to self: Always film automotive adventures, because you’ll be glad that you did.

Little Cars Don’t Need 4 Wheels On The Ground To Be Faster Than You

Recently, I was wandering the streets of Reddit/Autos, and saw an awesome video that “DrunkOnUnleaded” posted up. It’s a couple years old, but I was so thoroughly impressed that I figured I would share it on here as well.  In the midst of a heated track battle, one car begins sliding, which inevitably leads to an amazing automotive stunt that you haven’t witnessed since the 1930’s… Unless of course you race Fiat’s. Maybe it’s more common in the Fiat world than I think.  Either way, enjoy the video. I sure did.

This Is What Losing Your Brakes At 120mph Looks Like.

When you are accelerating down the straightaway at 120 mph in your track-only EVO, the last thing you want to lose is your brakes.  Luckily for this driver, the driver of the silver STI on his right checked his mirrors, saw what was about to happen, and didn’t turn in to the corner.  If he had, both drivers would have been in much worse shape.  Hold on to your hats, it’s one hell of a ride.

That obviously looked pretty bad, but imagine if you could see it from the STI’s perspective. Oh wait, you can, because he had an in-car camera as well.

When all was said and done, the driver of the EVO was a bit sore, and his car needed a few new body panels. Overall, not bad. It did drive itself onto the trailer though, which indicated the drivetrain being “mostly” ok.  So what happened to the brakes?  Well, he believes that they were severely overheated just before the straightaway, which boiled the brake fluid, and caused the low pedal. Needless to say, the brakes will be getting an upgrade of some sort.
