12 Songs to Make You Feel like a NASCAR Drive

The Strat 200 race of the 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series is tonight! In anticipation of the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, we’re re-reading one of our favorite blog posts from last season.

We selected some racecar-driver worthy tunes to help you get into a racing state of mind, some of which are even NASCAR-driver approved. The list is rounded out with a few of Spencer Boyd‘s picks.

  1. “Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin

A three-hour race sure sounds like quite a long, lonely time. Except for, of course, all of that adrenaline keeping you company.

  1. “Life in the Fast Lane” by the Eagles

Cliché? Yes, but don’t pretend you don’t love driving to this song. When you do, just don’t follow Don Henley’s lead—keep an eye out for the stop sign.

  1. Spencer’s Pick: “May We All” By Florida Georgia Line (featuring Tim McGraw)

A reminder to enjoy the little things, like a drive with the windows rolled down, and not take anything for granted—“May we all get to have a chance to ride the fast one / Walk away wiser when we crashed one / Keep hoping that the best one is the last one.”

  1. “Boys Wanna Be Her” by Peaches

* Cue montage of fearless female racecar drivers. *

  1. “Black Gold” by Houndmouth

Take a ride with the wild and promiscuous Oliver Asley Lane and Jenny Gasoline. A catchy song about a greedy, oil-driven family whose members know “there’s nothing like going way too fast.”

  1. Spencer’s Pick: “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC

Maybe your highway to hell is a little more highway to work? That won’t stop you from rocking out on the way in to the office like there “ain’t nothing” you “would rather do.”

  1. “Fastest Girl In Town” by Miranda Lambert

NASCAR-driver approved, Danica Patrick stars as the fastest girl in town in this song’s official music video.

  1. “Highway Tune” by Greta Van Fleet

The perfect loud, ‘70s-style rock song for cruising down—bet you can guess—the highway.

  1. Spencer’s Pick: “Red Solo Cup” by Toby Keith

Ah, the Red Solo Cup. Perhaps it can be considered the Abbott to a NASCAR driver’s Costello?

  1. “Long Black Road” by Electric Light Orchestra

Whether you’re on the road to ruin or just trying to make it to the weekend, ELO offers a little motivation to keep on keeping on.

  1. Spencer’s Pick: “Life Is A Highway” by Tom Cochrane, covered by Rascal Flatts

For when you want to ride all night long, Richard Petty style.

  1. Spencer’s Pick: “Talladega” by Eric Church

This list wouldn’t be complete without Eric Church’s nostalgic tribute to the Alabama speedway and the memories made there “as that checkered flag was waving.” Update: And this song is now particularly fitting since Spencer won at Talladega last year!

Bonus: “Viva Las Vegas” by Elvis Presley and The Jordanaires

How could this one not make the list?

Let us know which songs make you feel like a NASCAR driver and enjoy tonight’s race!
