Done: Honda Hawk GT NT650 Motorcycle Project

It all started back in early April when I posted the Honda Hawk GT Build Part 1.  I had just pulled it out of my dark, damp, and disgusting shed, and found that it had become the meeting place for all of the local spiders. Once the arachnid population was evicted and the sunlight hit it, I came to the  realization that my long term neglect had really taken a toll on my once loved motorcycle.  Every piece of aluminum was corroded, and all of the steel was rusting.  It was flat out sad looking.  The only way to properly correct this situation was to strip the whole thing down and start over. 2009 Cadillac CTS…..wait for it…. Convertible!

Just when you thought you had seen the roof cut off of everything (I’m looking at you Subaru STI ), somebody goes and lops one off of a 2009 Cadillac CTS, and throws it on eBay.  This whole “turn my car into a convertible” thing just puzzles me.  I have to assume that if the owner of this Cadillac wanted a convertible sooooo badly, they could have just bought a new Cadillac XLR at the time.  I mean what’s the price difference between buying a new CTS and having it turned into a convertible vs. buying a new XLR.  A few grand?  Ah well, at least it isn’t a full time convertible, that would be depressing.  Instead, in true Cadillac form, it has a luxurious power top, which you can see in action in This Video.

While it is actually better looking than many convertible conversions, it’s just not my forte’.  To each their own I suppose.  Nobody likes my truck either, but I still dump money into it like it’s a 401K, of which it is clearly not.  But I digress…. Here is the beautiful drop tizzop CTS showing off all that its got. What do you think? Is it your dream car or another nightmare?

Trevor Bayne To Sit Out Nascar All-Star Race

Trevor Bayne, the rookie who won this year’s Daytona 500 was guaranteed a spot in this years Nascar All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

In early April he was bitten in the elbow by something, they we’re not sure if it was a spider or a tick. Trevor ended up in the hospital shortly after the Texas race in April where he was treated and released for a bug bite. He had resumed his driving duties for the Wood Brothers until the end of April when inflammatory and vision symptoms had appeared landing him back in the hospital.

Reports say that his symptoms are unrelated to the insect bite and that he is now back out of the hospital and on his way to recovery. Read More

So Clean Air Filters Don’t Help Fuel Mileage?

While cruising the wide world of web recently, I landed on a .gov website with an interesting article that I thought had some interesting results. The premise of the article is that the US Department of Energy wanted to know how vehicle maintenance effected fuel mileage, specifically dirty air filters. So they did an experiment with 4 cars:

  • 2003 Toyota Camry 2.4L
  • 2007 Buick Lucerne 3.8L
  • 2006 Dodge Charger 5.7L
  • 1972 Pontiac Grandville 455ci (aww yea)

Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) Just Got Bigger

If you think Kyle Busch was unstoppable before in the Nascar Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), well you better be prepared to tighten your grip on the wheel because he has hired Two-Time World of Outlaws Late Motel Champ Josh Richards.

Josh Richards has been selected to drive the Joy Mining Machinery Toyota Tundra for a select number of races in 2011. His racing debut has been set to take place at Kentucky Speedway on July 7th.

General manager of KBM Rick Ren who also has an impressive past history as a dirt track racer and also holds the record in NCWTS for most wins as a crew chief has stated that “KBM is in the business of winning races and that Josh Richards has the heart of a champion, and that he was determined to do whatever it takes to be successful”.

I think it’s going to pretty interesting to watch an accomplished driver in the world of dirt track racing to take the wheel of a Camping World Series Truck.

From what I have seen the guys that come from this type of a dirt track background such as Tony Stewart and Clint Bowyer tend to do well while piloting a cup car or truck around the track due to the simple fact that when they get loose coming off of a corner they are used to peddling the throttle to regain control. In the world of dirt track Out Law Racing, driving on the edge of being out-of-control is a way of life.

The Nascar All-Star Race Is This Weekend!

Get your recliner ready because Nascar’s All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway is this weekend!

Rookies Trevor Bayne (winner of this years Daytona 500), and Regan Smith are both in the show for having won a race this year. However Nascar’s biggest star Dale Earnhardt Jr. is not. Although he has seemed to have turned his season around, he hasn’t won a race yet in 2011. So for Dale Junior he is going to have to try to race his way into the show during the Nascar prerace qualifier, and if he doesn’t make it in this way, it will be up to Junior Nation to support their driver and toss him into the ring on a fan vote.

When asked about how he felt about getting into the race he said that he has never been able to be part of the prerace show and was actually pretty excited to go through that process to see what happens, and basically be part of the event.

So the dash for cash is on for Saturday night on Speed with a purse of 1 million dollars. This is a no holds barred race with no points to worry about, and I have also heard that Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick’s probation didn’t count, or isn’t going to be enforced for this race.

Pretty much anything can happen. Remember in 2008 when Kasey Khane was voted in on the fan vote and won the darn thing, or what about the year Kurt and Kyle Busch took each other out of the event when they crashed. They didn’t speak to each other until Thanksgiving of that year when their grandmother at dinner time made them put it behind them and shake hands!

Who do you think will win the million dollar purse on Saturday night?
