Removing Rust with Molasses: Did You Know That Molasses Is A Rust Remover?

One of the most old school tricks in the book is removing rust with molasses. Yep, rust removal with deliciously, sticky molasses. It is just as easy as you would want it to be. You mix it with water for around a 7:1 water-to-molasses ratio. Then you drop the rusty parts into the bucket-o-goo, and forget about it for a month or so. When you eventually return, you remove your previously rusty metal to find. . .  Viola! Rust free metal! How great is that, right?

Check Out The Gatorade Duals On Speed

The big news out of Daytona from yesterday had to be that Dale Earhardt Jr crashed his 500 car during practice. He was drafting with teammate Jimmie Johnson when they came up on a pack of slower cars. Jimmie Johnson slowed down and got loose causing Earnhardt to slow, resulting in Martin Truex Jr. to get into the back of Earnhardt’s car sending him into the inside retaining wall.

Earnhardt has gone to a back up car and will need to start at the rear of the field as mandated by Nascar for the Daytona 500.

The Gatorade Duals are today and will be shown at 1:00 pm on Speed, the race starts at 2:00. The rest of the field has to race its way into the Daytona 500 during these two races. If you can catch them they’re a great race to watch, Speed usually replays them a few times at night during the week.

Nascar Changes Restrictor Plates For The Daytona 500

Due to cars hitting speeds of 206 MPH during the Bud Shootout on Saturday night, Nascar has decided to change the size of the restrictor plate to 1/64th of an inch.

This change should drop about 10 horsepower from the motors, resulting in speeds just under 200 MPH for Sunday’s race. These changes help to keep the cars at speeds that will keep both the drivers and fans safe.

Brand New 2000 Mustang Cobra R and 2003 Cobra SVT on eBay.

2000 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R
2000 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R

Wouldn’t it be nice to buy a brand new old car?  Well, if you are a Mustang enthusiast with money burning holes in your pockets, it’s your lucky day!  There is a seller on eBay that had apparently bought some special edition Mustangs back around Y2K and is now selling a couple of them.  Yesterday’s listing was a 2000 Mustang SVT Cobra R with 11 miles.  It was clearly bought as an investment because it has “No Pre-Delivery Inspection” written all over it.  This means that all the plastic crap was left on it from when it was shipped to the dealer, and a technician didn’t go through it to test everything out and top off all the fluids.  No big deal, I’m sure the car is juuuust fine without it.  The real beauty is the fantastically simple combination of big V8, light car, manual transmission, and rear wheel drive. From the factory, they had 385 horsepower on tap, 6 gears, and 265/40/18’s gluing you to the ground.  They also only made 300 of them this year, so it’s a rare bird to say the least.  The eBay price on this car was $70,000, which is honestly not much above the original purchase price of $54,995.  Sadly, it looks like the listing was ended early after receiving offers everywhere from $1 to $60,500. Turning in a time of 48.364 at 186.089 MPH Dale Earhardt Jr. turned in the fastest qualifying lap earning himself the top  spot on the pole of the 53rd Daytona 500

If one things for certain Dale Jr is a force to be reckoned with on the super speedways. He ran well during the Bud Shootout on Saturday night until Carl Edwards bumped him from behind sending him into the fence and putting an early end to his night. Read More
