Hey! IIHS Has 591 Videos of Crashing Cars!

This morning I landed on a crash test video that was made by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.  When I was done watching the crash test, I realized that there were about 590 more to watch! GOLD MINE!  There is no denying it, watching cars smash into each other without real lives at stake is really about as good as it gets.  Most of the videos are short, sweet, and all business.  Car enters at stage right with a high rate of speed, smashes object at stage left. Then they do a slow motion replay, and it’s a wrap. Next!  It isn’t just brand new cars either, there are a variety of older car tests too! Here are 4 of my favorites so far.

The Universal Language – Supercharged V8 Volvo Video.

When it comes right down to it, a supercharged V8 engine stuck into a car is a winning combination every single, stinkin’ time. You absolutely cannot deny it.  It doesn’t matter if it is a Corvette, a Ford Falcon, or Acura Integra.  Blown V8’s are all about brutally obnoxious, tire shredding, fear-filled, horsepower.  The other day, I came across this Volvo 740 which I believe was built in Sweden, though I can’t be sure because I don’t speak or read the language.  I typically just pick out the words that look like English or Gearhead slang, and make up the rest to fill in the blanks.  Hey whatever works, amirite?  Let’s get down to it – Here are the stats that you’ll want to take a close look at: Read More

Friday Can Only Be Celebrated With Burnouts!

Each Friday, Tony and I like to post up some great burnout videos.  Over the course of this week, we came across a few really nice ones to share. However, the key to really enjoying these videos lies within your volume control. Don’t be shy about cranking the volume up. You are going to want to hear the turbos spool, the superchargers whine, and the tires rip up the pavement. Enjoy!

This Is An Acura Integra With A Blown Big Block.

acura integra big block

I’m sure that many times in life, you have secretly wondered what it would be like to shoehorn a supercharged big block Chevy into an Acura Integra.  Luckily for you, we now have the answer in the form of a YouTube video.  The word on the street is that this car was built by the owner of Pro Street Unlimited in Manchester NH.

From what I have been told, it has a big block 402 with an 871 blower, sitting in a shaved engine bay, with a TH350 transmission strapped to the back, full tube frame in the rear, and a Ford 9 inch rear end.  Not too shabby, I’d say. As more details come to me, I will add them in. Until then, enjoy the video, as it really is quite an impressive accomplishment.

This Is How You Properly Do Donuts In A Viper …..Chassis.

I originally spotted this video over on Jalopnik, and I figured that the 1A Auto Blog readers would appreciate it as well.  These guys basically just bake the rear tires off a bodyless Viper.  It looks disturbingly fun, and makes me extremely jealous. There is no denying it, 500 horsepower + no weight = maximum fun.

….And for me, I’m going with a 1919 rat rod that blows flames everywhere.  It’s not as loud as I had hoped, but old cars & flames are always a win. Enjoy!
