Pictures From The 2010 1A Auto Car Show.

Last year we had a fantastic car show on a beautiful summer day in July.   There were about 140 cars there and we took hundreds and hundreds of pictures.  Here are a few of them.  If you want to see hundreds more, leave me a comment to let me know.  I will then keep posting them up until you can’t possibly stand any more.  We have some kind of “artsy” ones as well if you’re interested?

p.s. Our 2011 car show is July 31st at the Pepperell MA. Town Field.  We want you there!

Whoa: Have You Seen Nelson Racing Engines?

Imagine you are a multi-millionaire driving to work in your luxurious ’91 Chevrolet Caprice (hey, it could happen).  Gas is cheap, the sun is shining, brightly colored flowers are swaying, ducks are quacking, and life sure is good.  With the windows wide open and the radio cranked, you do your best to harmonize with Mariah Carey because nobody else is around to judge you.  You are sure that today is going to be an absolutely wonderful day.  Mariah and yourself are just about to hit the pinnacle of “We belong together”, when your Caprice violently puke’s its connecting rod through the side of the engine block.  Ca-Blooey!  Rap Rap Ca-Pow!  Thud….  Mariah will have to finish this one without you.

Silence has surrounded you as you woefully roll to the side of the road.  The sun, flowers, and ducks have all vanished as well.  Could your engine have really been trying to escape your singing?  Ouch. While you can’t be sure about your engine’s motives, you can be sure that your smooth sailing, sweet B-body needs a new power plant. What a bummer…  Or is it? Read More

American Trucker: BJ & The Bear Truck Restoration Episode

I was sitting down flipping through the channels last night when I stumbled upon and episode of American Trucker on the Speed channel.

The episode was about the restoration of the 18 wheeler from the hit TV show BJ & The Bear from the late ’70s to the early ’80s. As a kid I used to watch this show all the time and remembered that it was a pretty cool truck, not to mention that driving an 18 wheeler with a chimp in the passenger seat made things interesting.

Paul and Craig Sagehorn are the father and son team doing the restoration on the truck. When they found the cab it was in pretty tough shape, they basically had to do a frame off restoration on this rig and put everything back together. Once the original trailer was located, it was missing the reefer unit, so another one had to be located that would match up to the trailer. Read More

The Worlds Fastest Dodge Caravan Is Now For Sale.

Your dreams have finally come true. The fastest Dodge Caravan is officially for sale for the nominal amount of $6500.  Considering that it is a 1989 Dodge Caravan that runs 11.76 @ 115 mph in the quarter mile, that’s not a bad price in my mind.  Seriously. That is really, really ridiculous fast, not just for a mini van, but for any car.  Mid 11 second quarter’s are as quick as a Corvette Z06 for your reference.  So doing that in a front wheel drive turbo minivan is an epic win.

Terry Ryan (AKA “Gasketmaster”), who built and owns this work of art says:

The Days Are Starting To Get Longer

I was heading home from work last night and I couldn’t help but notice one thing, I didn’t need my headlights on! You know what this means don’t you? we’re about 6-8 weeks away from being able to fire up a hot rod and go for a spin up here in New England.

There’s nothing like cruising home from work in your muscle car and being able to turn into a cruise night, grab a burger with your buddies and talk about what mods your going to do over the summer or what gremlins have presented themselves over your cars long winters nap.

Daylight savings time is about 10 days away (from the date of this post), not that I’m counting or anything. One more sign that warmer weather and good times are approaching. Who needs a ground hog to predict this stuff anyway?

Exclusive Motoring: The 1983 Volvo 240 Turbo Commercial.

Volvo 240 Turbo

In the early 1980’s quite a few manufacturers wanted to get into the rally racing game, and Volvo was one of them.  Naturally they needed to produce a car that had some kind of chance of fitting into that scene.  So, they came out with a turbocharged 240 that made just a tick over 150 horsepower and about 175 ft lbs of torque.  This was sort of the “base” for the special edition racing versions that would come out shortly after with double the horsepower and torque.
