Another common problem with the 3rd gen Focus involves the radio. With the key in the ON position, the radio may not work as the buttons fail to command anything.
How to Fix a Bad Radio Fuse
There is a body control module with fuses underneath the dash behind the panel on the passenger side, and fuse 79, 85, and 88 affect radio operation. There are black marks on the control module representing a number that will be in the top right position to its corresponding fuse. For example, Fuse 79 will have a “79” in the top right corner of its 15 amp corresponding fuse to help you identify which fuse is located where.
With the key OFF, pull the fuse and check if it’s blown. Replace the fuse if it is.
5. Bad Ground Straps

It may feel like the transmission doesn’t know what gear it wants to be in. There may also be an issue with the reverse gear.
How to Fix Bad Ground Straps
Find the battery and follow the negative battery terminal where it connects to the body of the vehicle. There are several other ground straps between the engine and the body of the vehicle.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal and disconnect the cable from the part of the body where the cable connects. The only ground the cable can make in this area is through the mounting bolt threads and the lack of voltage can cause an issue. Clean the area by sanding it clean, and do the same on the backside of the cable where it connects and the forward side where the bolt will be touching against it. Make sure to clean off any corrosion.
